These tips change often, so check back on occasion.

#1. Store bottles on their sides.  When you go to uncork an old bottle, stand it up for up to 24 hours to let sediment collect at at bottom.

#2. Let young tannic reds breath.  Uncork half an hour before enjoying or "decant."

#3. Most white wines do not age well.  Reserve the aging of whites for well-made whites.

#4. Don't order one the two least expensive wines on a wine list.  It's typically there to make the restaurant the most profit.  As an exciting alternative, order a medium priced wine of a vintage or varietal that you haven't had before.

#5. Some of the worlds best buys in reds come from South America, try a Chilean Carmenere or an Argentinan Malbec.

#6. As a fun experiment, try one of the two grape varietals that are the parents of Cabernet Sauvignon's - Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc and compare aromas, textures and taste.
